Today, 28 January, a new carrier – Diamond Sky – started flights between Kärdla and Tallinn. The biggest change for Hiiumaa residents compared to the previous airline is the bigger plane and the need to be at Kärdla airport 45 minutes before departure instead of the previous half an hour.
The route will be operated with a 33-seat Saab 340A aircraft leased from Polish company Sprint Air. The price of a one-way ticket is €25 and tickets can currently be purchased online at http://www.eestilennud.ee or by phone on 5388 0555.
Kärdla Airport Operations Manager Allan Mäll: “We are very pleased that air traffic between Hiiumaa and Tallinn will not be interrupted and that islanders will be able to fly to the capital and tourists will be able to visit our island comfortably. A bigger plane will certainly be helpful, especially during the summer period, when interest in Hiiumaa increases significantly. The Kärdla Airport team is ready and waiting for everyone to fly.”
Diamond Sky CEO Madis Vanaselja: “From the signing of the Tallinn-Kärdla flight contract to the start of flights, it was only a week. The Diamond Sky team has been working at full capacity to ensure an uninterrupted flight connection between Tallinn and Kärdla and to start flights already on January 28. We are doing our utmost to be a good partner for the state and for the travellers, and we are confident that the larger aircraft will also increase the popularity of flying among locals and tourists alike.”
The Kärdla – Tallinn flight will last half an hour and flights will be operated:
Mon-Fri 7.15 and 17.00 from Tallinn and 8.00 and 17.45 from Kärdla
Sat 9.15 from Tallinn and 10.00 from Kärdla.
